Here’s a topic that comes up at many a change management meet up!
It’s a tricky one as change management is such a specialised field, agile even more so and so to find a really good recruiter you need one who really invests in the industry.
Often change managers are recruited through generalised recruiting firms who are large and on the corporate panels. Unfortunately, these are the recruiting firms that often have very little understanding of what change managers do and get confused with technical change management (e.g. release managers and ITIL).
So, you know what? We’re putting this one out to the community. Tell us in the comments who you rate as a specialist change management recruiter and why.
At the minimum we would expect there is proof that they are actively involved in the change industry, and not just posting roles on LinkedIn! Bonus points if they keep you in the loop and communicate well. Absolute gold stars if you know they push back on clients and help educate them on their requirements.
The Agile Change Leadership Institute is headquartered in Melbourne, Australia so we will start with three of the standouts who live in Melbourne and surrounds, although they all recruit nationally:
Alan Herrity, Momentum Search and Selection.
Alan has been established in the specialised recruitment of project, change and agility people for 11 years now. He is known for NOT advertising roles that come up – rather he has such a strong network of candidates and placements he can work his database when clients seek that elusive all-star! Alan is exceptional at prepping you for your interviews and making sure that you are well positioned to shine. Alan gives back to the community by generously creating content to help people on their job search. At the time of publishing, Alan’s YouTube channel had 154 videos full of advice on landing a role in the field of transformation.
You can hear more from Alan on an earlier podcast with Dr Jen Frahm way back in 2016 or more recently with ACLI alumni Natasha Redman.
Tracey Petrie, White Cloud Recruitment
Tracey is an absolute gem and offers incredible value to the change community. White Cloud Recruitment was founded in 2019, but many will know Tracey from her earlier roles in change management recruiting. Tracey is known for being open, honest and authentic. She is very giving of her time and will not sugar coat or ghost. She maintains a valuable blog, is not afraid of saying what needs to be said. Notably, Tracey has also invested in change management training and received Prosci certification in 2021. Connect with Tracey on LinkedIn and follow her company page.
Killian O’Sullivan of U&U
Killian is a relative newcomer to the Melbourne Change market but has hit the scene with gusto! Killian is a regular presence at Change Management meetups and is known for keeping his finger on the pulse. When recruiters invest time in the community it pays off. He has a regular newsletter which is full of valuable information and insights and is worth signing up for. He does a lot of work championing women in technology, and so you can expect that the change project roles he brings forward are strong in agile and frontier trends such as AI. Connect with Killian on LinkedIn and sign up for his newsletter.
So that’s a start! Who would you recommend? Do let us know in the comments and wh and we can update!
PS! New recruiting resource
Speaking of recruiting, did you see Co-Founder Lena Ross’s new Interview Companion and Question Bank now available? It’s simply brilliant. You’ll either ace answering or asking the questions with it!
One response to “The best change management recruiters”
Thank you so much for your kind words Jen. It’s always very nice to get the work that you do recognised, but particularly so when it comes from someone with such a fantastic reputation in the change market 🙂
