ACMP Manitoba is hosting a book club — and the author is coming.
For one hour online, we’re discussing Change. Communication, the fourth book from Dr Jen Frahm and the most complete account yet of what change communication actually requires of the people doing the work. An MC from ACMP Manitoba runs the session. Jen is our guest. You bring the questions.
Nobody is presenting at you. There are no slides to sit through. It’s built around audience questions — a conversation between practitioners who have read the same book and want to argue with it, test it against their own work, and ask the author the things you can’t ask a book.
Which means the questions are yours to choose. Want to dig into the monologic / dialogic / sensemaking spine? Go for it. Want to ask about AI, or what to do when leadership won’t stop broadcasting, or how any of this survives a restructure? Also fair game. Nothing is off the table.
Change. Communication. Less Noise. More Meaning. Change That Lands is built on a deceptively simple framework drawn from Jen’s doctoral research: change communication does three distinct jobs — monologic (creating stability through clarity), dialogic (creating momentum through conversation), and sensemaking (helping people work out what it all actually means) — and the craft lies in knowing how to sequence and move between them.
From there it maps the practices that genuinely cut through, from micro communications and user-generated content to AI-enabled approaches, all grounded in brain-friendly, audience-centric principles. It closes by looking ahead — to fragmented attention, competing narratives, and accelerating AI, where the practitioners who thrive won’t be the ones who communicate the most, but the ones who know what to say, what to hold back, and what to protect.
The throughline is a reframe worth an hour of your time: communication isn’t an activity you perform on top of change. It’s the environment in which change either takes hold or comes undone.
Dr Jen Frahm has spent three decades helping people make sense of change. A global expert in organizational change, transformation, and change communication, she is co-founder of the Agile Change Leadership Institute and the author of Conversations of Change (2017), The Agile Change Playbook (2020, with Lena Ross), and Change. Leader (2021). Her doctoral research at Queensland University of Technology examined how change communication shapes change receptivity — work that still underpins her thinking today. She has designed and delivered change across more than 80 countries, in industries ranging from wine sales to wedding dresses.
